Alidaunia allows the transfer of medical data in flight and SKYTRAC telemedicine on board the AW139 and AW169 helicopters – SatNews

Alidaunia AW169 - SKYTRAC

Using the Iridium satellite network, the ISAT-200A-07 guarantees the transfer of medical data and telemedicine from any point of the globe, even during difficult weather events.

SKYTRAC Systems Ltd. (SKYTRAC), a world leader in aerospace intelligent connectivity and satellite communications (Satcom), announced today that Alidaunia SRL (Alidaunia), one of the main Italian suppliers of air ambulance, charter and passenger services, has enabled the transfer of medical data and the telemedicine capability of SKYTRAC on board its fleet of Leonardo AW139 and AW169 helicopters.

In 2019, Alidaunia started taking advantage of SKYTRAC ISAT-200A-07 to enable real-time health and utilization monitoring (HUMS) and automated data download to optimize helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) and civil protection operations. Subsequently, Alidaunia became an official distributor and installer of SKYTRAC’s industry-leading Satcom hardware in Leonardo aircraft. Alidaunia and SKYTRAC have enabled medical data transfer and telemedicine capabilities aboard their helicopter fleet using satellite and cellular connectivity.

With this new feature, Alidaunia’s air medical crew can stream vital patient data in real time from onboard medical devices and stream live video via Google Glasses so that remote doctors can have an accurate view of the patient’s condition that changes dynamically. Healthcare professionals can also access 12-lead ECG reports prior to patient arrival, saving valuable preparation time.

“Remote physicians and receiving hospitals will no longer have to rely on voice communication to gain an understanding of the patient’s flight conditions,” He says Jan van der Heul, SKYTRAC Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “The transmission of medical data and the streaming of live video marks a significant technological advance that enables rapid and informed decision making that ultimately improves patient care.”

Innovative capabilities are enabled by the multifunctional ISAT-200A-07 supplemented by Dynamic air connection 200 (DAL-200), which allows patient data to be transmitted when cellular connectivity is available. When cellular connectivity isn’t available, SKYTRAC’s ISAT-200A-07 encrypts and transmits secure medical data via satellite connectivity. Using the Iridium satellite network, the ISAT-200A-07 guarantees the transfer of medical data and telemedicine from any point of the globe, even during difficult weather events.

We consider this project a revolutionary step forward for the entire HEMS sector “.

SKYTRAC and Alidaunia will present this capability at AirMed World Congress 2022 on June 28, between 13:30 and 15:00.
