The Rolex Giraglia 2022 is underway !!

The Rolex Giraglia 2022 is underway! A fleet of 56 boats will take the starting line for the coastal regatta from Sanremo to Saint-Tropez. At midnight the first cannon shot will sound, meanwhile the docks of the Sanremo Yacht Club are in turmoil in view of the 60-mile race that separates – and unites – the two coastal towns. The Skippers’ Briefing will take place at 6pm, with cocktails on the dock to send crews away in style.

Everything is ready at the Sanremo Yacht Club for the start of the first act of the Rolex Giraglia 2022. Competitors will cover 60 miles in the opening regatta in Saint-Tropez, before the start of the coastal races on Sunday 12 June.

The Sanremo-St Tropez coastal regatta celebrates its 13th edition this year, with 56 boats registered from 16 different nations. Scrolling through the list of items shows the yachts flying the flags of Uruguay, Argentina, Turkey and the Cayman Islands.

The route record for the Sanremo-St Tropez is held by the maxi yacht Esimit Europa, which in 2015 took only 4 hours and 52 minutes to cover the distance of 63 miles.

The forecast for the midnight departure indicates a weak wind from the west, turning north during the night. Navigators have the task of choosing the best route, whether to keep close to the coast, lengthening the distance a little, but taking more wind, or to take the direct route to Saint-Tropez, where the larger boats could arrive as early as first lights tomorrow, Saturday 11 June.

The important thing is to make the most of the coastal breezes and avoid any windless holes in the mandatory part of the route towards Saint-Tropez ”.

Speaking of Elo II, the Rolex Giraglia is the first offshore race of the season for the 45-foot prototype of the YCI, which will take part in the most important regattas of the 2022 sports calendar. experience alongside a team of professional sailors who will alternate aboard Elo as coaches. On this occasion Tommaso Chieffi will be on board for the coastal regattas, while Ambrogio Beccaria and Mauro Pelaschier will take the reins for the long regatta.

During the offshore regatta, the President of the Barcolana / SVBG Mitja Gialuz and the Sporting Director Dean Bassi will also be on board, thanks to the twinning with the YCI.
