Nick Kyrgios v Daniel Altmaier Head to Head
No previous game has been played between these two players before this one.
Kyrgios coming out of the semifinals in Stuttgart
Having not played competitive tennis since his semi-final at the Houston Open in April, Kyrgios returned to Stuttgart’s turf with a solid performance.
Showing exemplary discipline, Kyrgios managed to overtake Jiri Lehecka, Nikoloz Basilashvili and Marton Fucsovics to make it to the semifinal. And even against a fit and grass court lover Andy Murray in that semifinal, Kyrgios fought.
Ultimately, Murray came out with a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win, but not before Kyrgios showed, once again, what he is capable of.
That’s not to say Kyrgios can be trusted to continue with the same form and discipline without imploding at the first signs of distress on the pitch, but for now it looks like he can challenge some of the best in the business.
Altmaier needs to overturn the three-game losing streak
While Altmaier struggled for top-flight wins, having lost his last three straight games, his real problems in this bout stem from his problems on the grass.
Altmaier, who had lost in two sets to Oscar Otte in the first round at the Stuttgart Open, has a career win-loss record of 2-3 on this surface.
He points out that he has barely had any experience on this surface and even if you add his Challenger and the lower tier games on grass, Altmaier has only played 10 in all.
Now against a player of the caliber of Kyrgios, Altmaier’s best hope is that the Australian will lose his own battle. Because on its own, it looks like Altmaier could collapse in the blink of an eye in this one.
Kyrgios v Altmaier Prediction and tip
Kyrgios is a heavy favorite in this one at 3/25 and while we all know what he’s capable of, it would take a monumental effort for the Aussie to miss this one.
