Jenna Ortega has Christina Ricci’s stamp of approval. The “Scream” star will play Wednesday Addams – a role Ricci famously played in 1990s movies – in Netflix’s next Addams family series, “Wednesday.”
On Saturday night, Ricci shared with Variety what it was like to return to the Addams family world.
“It’s super fun. I enjoyed working with Tim [Burton]. I worked with Gwendolyn Christie, it was great. And Jenna is amazing, “she said during the FYC” Yellowjackets “event.” I saw some of the wardrobe photos before I left. [to set] so I knew [what she looked like in character] and I was like, Wednesday is a great modern take. It is so true to the tone of the heart and soul of [the original]but then it’s incredibly modern and it’s great.
The upcoming series portrays Wednesday as a teenager, while “The Addams Family” and “Addams Family Values” portray her as a girl. The new show, produced by MGM Television for Netflix, will follow the character as he “tries to master his emerging psychic abilities, thwart a monstrous killing spree that terrorized the local town and solve the supernatural mystery involving his parents 25 years ago. – all while navigating her new and very intricate relationships at Nevermore.
Catherine Zeta-Jones plays the matriarch Morticia, while Victor Dorobantu plays Thing, Isaac Ordonez plays Wednesday’s brother, Pugsley, and George Burcea plays Lurch. Luis Guzmán stars as Wednesday’s father, Gomez. Creators Al Gough and Miles Millar serve as executive producers, while Burton will produce and direct more episodes as well.
Ricci’s role has not yet been revealed.
Meanwhile, he’s gearing up for Emmy season and promoting Showtime’s “Yellowjackets,” which will soon begin filming in its second season. While she was initially in the lead actress contest alongside co-stars Tawny Cypress, Juliette Lewis and Melanie Lynskey, she is now ready to compete in the support category for the role of Misty, a character unlike anything Ricci has ever done. .
“I love that she’s like, ‘Fuck you. Nobody will ever give me anything. I will have a great time in this life. I’ll do what I want and I’ll fuck you ‘”, Ricci told us.” She’s having fun. Everyone else is having a hard time, she says,’ I don’t know what your problem is! ‘”
While the character has a darkness about her, Ricci doesn’t feel the pressure to tap into this before filming.
“I’ve had extreme feelings of wanting to kill someone, but I never would because I’m sane. But I can take that crazy feeling I had and imagine that I have no sanity, and then it works, “he said.” I love playing characters this way because they’re so different from who I am as a human being. So I think when something it is far from you, it is easier to go there ”.
