Matteo Berrettini – Oscar Otte Head to head

Berrettini continues to settle in the rhythm

2021 was an excellent grass season for Italian Matteo Berrettini with him winning the title at Queens and then being second behind Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon.

This season has started well for Berrettini who made the semifinal of the Aussie Open, losing in four sets against eventual champion Rafael Nadal. However, a not-too-impressive Sunshine Masters that saw him get in trouble ended with a more serious elbow injury that missed the entire season on clay.

It hasn’t been the easiest comeback for the number two seed here this week. He had a tight opening where he was pushed towards a decisive decision by Radu Abot and prevailed and then had a more challenging quarter-final against compatriot and friend Lorenzo Sonego.

Sonego got off to a great start bringing the first set 6-3 with just one service break and initially seemed to be moving much better than Berrettini. However, with every game, Berrettini tried to settle for more when he took the second set 6-3 bringing the game to the last set.

It was a tight third set with both players pushing each other, until Berrettini’s only break proved to be enough for him to score the semifinals here in Stuttgart.

Otte tries to continue the favorable momentum

A late comer, Oscar Otte is very suited to grass pitches, plays a good net game and did it this week in Stuttgart.

Otte, who will be remembered for his epic second round defeat to Briton Andy Murray at Wimbledon last year, did not have the best of clay court seasons overall with an early defeat at Roland Garross. However, he maintained a good track record at home in Germany by making the semi-final at the ATP 250 in Munich by losing in a close encounter with Danish teenager Holger Rune who won the title.

The German got off to a good start this week here in Stuttgart when he played against doubles partner and compatriot Daniel Altmaier in the opening round and prevailed in a close two tiebreak win.

Against 2021 Wimbledon semi-finalist Denis Shapovalov in the second round, it was another close match with both sets going to break and Otte winning again each time, much to the chagrin of the Canadian who has now recorded four defeats. consecutive since the victory against Rafael Nadal in Rome.

Scheduled to face Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi in the quarter-finals, it was a pass for the German who will now be rested and hopes for a strong and continued run this weekend.

Berrettini v Otte Prediction and Tip

This should create a good match with both players having grass-friendly games. While Berrettini starts as the favorite, he has not yet regained the form and confidence of last summer, and on the other hand Otte is confident and in the middle of a good race this week.

A back and forth on the cards, with the Italian prevailing in a three set.
